The success story of the MethaNIR R&D Project
Mathieu Lesteur has carried out a PhD in two French publics institutes: Cemagref in Montpellier and Ecole des Mines d’Alès. He worked within INRA facilites (French public research institute for Agronomy), in the Laboratory for Environmental Biotechnology (LBE) in Narbonne, headed by Jean-Philippe Steyer. The LBE has been working in this research domain for many years and is a scientific reference in the field.
His research thesis was based on the rapid measurement of BMP based near infrared spectroscopy (NIR). Spectroscopy is a solution of choice for nondestructive and real-time optical measurement of solid samples. Dr. Lesteur proved that spectroscopy was able to estimate the BMP of household wastes, with an accuracy comparable to the BMP reference.
For this work, Dr. Lesteur received the Award for Innovative Technology from ADEME at Pollutec 2009 congress.
Encouraged by these initial findings, Ondalys in collaboration with INRA, developed the Flash BMP®, a rapid BMP measurement of all wastes, based on near infrared spectroscopy.
This development of a new rapid method for measuring BMP thus combines Ondalys skills in spectroscopy and data analysis as weel as INRA expertise on methanization.
In this context, Ondalys participates in the BioEnergieSud network, bringing together all the Languedoc-Roussillon region stakeholders involved in biomass and energy, backed by competitiveness clusters Derbi & Trimatec. Ondalys is also part of Hélio-SPIR, the French association of near infrared spectroscopy.
